Sierra Nevada Journeys (SNJ)

is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that uses the unique outdoor classrooms of our region to deliver impactful science education to promote long-term student achievement. We do this by combining school based curriculum, field and residential experiential programs, and professional development for teachers, creating multiple education points of contact for students and schools. Our programs create higher cognition and long term student achievement, while building the capacity of educators to effectively teach their curriculum.

SNJ’s Whole School Model is our flagship educational program. This program ensures the teachable moments inherent in outdoor education are extended across the year and throughout a student’s grade progression. The idea uses outdoor science education supported by in school lessons and teacher professional development to maximize student knowledge and achievement across science, math, reading, and collaborative problem solving.
