How do rocks become sand? Why are some rocks jagged and others are smooth and rounded? You will learn how rocks are broken down in nature in a process called "weathering." You’ll conduct an experiment and discuss how the experiment models a natural process happening all around us.

Materials:
• A pencil (markers optional)
• 2 pieces of paper or science journal
• 2 sealable bags or 1 non-breakable container with lid (This container will get dirty).
• 3 small rocks that can be broken down or scratched
• Optional: towel or oven mitt to protect hands
