Field Educator
Stephanie was born and raised in Southeast Los Angeles and moved to the Sacramento area in 2012. As a child, Stephanie attended summer camps along with nature, science, and sailing field trips. She attributes these experiences to developing her love of nature and hopes to spark the same admiration for the natural world with the students she teaches. She attended a Title 1 elementary school and understands first-hand how important outdoor education and science-based programming is for underprivileged communities. Stephanie has Associates Degrees in General and Environmental Science from Santa Monica College and is currently finishing her undergraduate thesis on the importance of green space in urban environments at California State University, Sacramento; she will be graduating this fall with a Bachelors in Science in Environmental Studies and minor in Nonprofit Administration.
Working with children in both formal and informal education settings since she was 18, Stephanie has held different positions throughout her career journey ranging from tutor and instructional aide to camp counselor and nature center educator. Having previously worked with Sierra Nevada Journeys as an intern and field educator, she is excited to be back on the Sierra Nevada Journeys team and get outdoors with students again.
When she’s not working with students, Stephanie can be found in the garden, crafting, and exploring nature with her husband and daughter.
